26 Sept 2026 · northwestern Pakistan

What happened A suicide bomber attacked a police checkpost at Aman Mela near Darazinda, Dera Ismail Khan, on Saturday. Rescue 1122 said at least 11 people were killed and 20 others were injured. Rescue 1122 said the dead included eight men, two women and a child. Police said the checkpost is located near Mughal Kot on the Dera Ismail Khan–Quetta road.

Early reports and differing accounts - Rescue 1122 gave the most direct casualty figures for this record: 11 killed and 20 injured, and said rescue teams were recovering victims from debris. (Rescue 1122, reported by Dawn) - An initial police and regional police officer (RPO) account, cited by Dawn shortly after the blast, said 12 people were killed and 30 injured. This is a different early figure from the police/RPO and contradicts Rescue 1122’s count. (Police/RPO, reported by Dawn) - Regional account ahlulhaqqn later claimed the attack used a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (a tractor-trolley), said “at least 13 people” were killed and “over 30” injured, and alleged that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed the blast and that militants then opened fire on a responding Rescue 1122 ambulance, killing two civilians and injuring a rescue worker. Those additional details and higher figures are reported here as ahlulhaqqn’s account and have not been confirmed by Rescue 1122 or Dawn. (ahlulhaqqn) - Dawn later published updates that repeated the police/RPO figures and in one version reported a figure of 12 killed and 35 injured, and reported separately that two rescue workers were killed and another injured when a Rescue 1122 ambulance came under fire while transporting bodies; those specifics mirror elements of the ahlulhaqqn account but are presented as initial or later official counts. The differing figures are identified here by their sources and not reconciled.

Figures - Killed: 11 (Rescue 1122, as reported by Dawn). Other accounts gave 12 (police/RPO, reported by Dawn) and at least 13 (ahlulhaqqn). - Injured: 20 (Rescue 1122, as reported by Dawn). Other accounts gave 30 or more (police/RPO and ahlulhaqqn; Dawn later cited 35 in one update).
